Hypnosis is a normal and natural function of your mind. You go into hypnosis (your subconscious mind) either intentionally or unintentionally. Most people don’t realize that they go into unintentional hypnosis hundreds of times a day. One of the most common times is when you are driving a car. You have done it often and your mind goes on autopilot, and then you start daydreaming. You may be thinking about something at work, home, or a new vacation. You could be thinking about a zillion different things and not even be aware of your surroundings. You might run a red light, miss your turn, stop at a green light, among other things. So, when driving, stay in the present, and stay aware of your surroundings. Try to limit your daydreaming. Another time you can enter unintentional hypnosis is watching a movie in a theater. You may be so involved in the movie, that the theater around you is gone. You are in that movie. Someone could be talking behind you or a baby crying and you are not even aware of this. Your outside awareness has just changed. But, should an emergency occur or the movie doesn’t hold your attention, you’ll return to your conscious mind. When you are sitting in the classroom, listening to the teacher drone on and on, your thoughts begin to drift, you start to daydream and then go into unintentional hypnosis. Reading a book, working on the computer and exercising are more examples of unintentional hypnosis. I’m sure you can think of more examples just by thinking about how you go through your day!
